Building Digital Resilience for a Safer, Just, and Informed Global South

Digital Resilience

CIS is a founding member of the Global Network of Social Justice and Digital Resilience (a network of 10 Global South-led organizations that provide technical support to civil society in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East). The Digital Resilience research project aims to broaden the mainstream perception of digital resilience beyond cybersecurity by building a comprehensive and accessible body of scholarship on internet shutdowns, misinformation, online gender-based violence, and the impact of technology on the environment. We plan to achieve this by building research that initiates critical conversations regarding digital resilience, while also building and training a network of human rights practitioners to detect and respond to digital threats. This project employs a variety of methodologies (such as surveys, focus group discussions, interviews, longitudinal studies, participatory research methods and technical analysis methods) to study misinformation, internet standards, and digital security.
